HAPPY TUESDAY from your personal trainers in St. Petersburg Fl. We here in Florida have it pretty good regarding weather and the ability to be out and active comfortably year round and our Fitness St Pete I Tierra Verde group fitness training members take full advantage of it.
Here in St Pete, Weight Loss Programs and the clean eating that goes along with them is a year round event event with a few peaks and valleys mixed in… the summer being among them.
To celebrate the amazing success and the hundreds of pounds lost since we launched our Group Personal Training and Weight Loss Programs Programs in Downtown St. Petersburg and online this year, I wanted to share with you the “secrets” all of our personal training and group fitness training program members know about crushing and eliminating carb cravings ! I’ve even got an epic freebie for you!
HOW TO ELIMINATE CARB CRAVINGS ONCE AND FOR ALL !
After 20 years as a St Pete personal trainer and fitness consultant, one of the biggest reasons I hear from folks about why they are unable to lose the fat they want and achieve a body that looks and feels amazing is “carb or sugar cravings” or being a “carb addict”.
We all know we can eat from boredom, stress or depression (all which can stem from being cooped up in the house), but often times (read this as USUALLY) “carb cravings” stem from a physiological response to the type of carbohydrates you eat and how you eat them. For instance, have you ever noticed that the more you eat, the more you want and the hungrier you get?
The “secret” lies in the TYPE of carbs you choose and how you combine them with other foods.
This is presuming that you are getting adequate daily calories and proper break down of macro nutrients and aren’t eating because you are bored, stressed or annoyed and that you aren’t coming off of a strict “no carb” diet.
Processed carbohydrates, like those made with white flour and white sugar have had their nutrients, including fiber, stripped during processing, so when they are consumed, they are digested rapidly and can cause spikes in blood sugar that can lead to unhealthy cravings for more of the same. If you remove them from your diet, 90% of the time, you will notice a measurable decrease in “carb cravings” and “carb addiction”. Aside from the amped up carb cravings, they effect your insulin levels and fat storing hormones creating a double whammy.
Choose “good carbs” like grains, vegetables, beans and other legumes, and fruits because they are nutrient-dense, high in fiber, and, unlike processed carbs, will help stabilize your blood sugar levels and keep you feeling fuller longer. If you have ever done one of our challenges or been on one of our food plans, you know that beans are one of my favorite belly fat blasting foods.
BONUS TIP:
To further tame carb cravings, ALWAYS be sure to eat your carbs with a protein or fat. This will help slow down the break down of the sugar in your blood stream, keeping blood sugar even and fat storing hormones at a minimum.
For example, always pair your fruit with cheese or nuts (watch your portions and, of course, limit your cheese intake) or, chop up nuts or swirl your favorite nut butter or protein powder into your oatmeal.
REMEMBER: fat free = blood sugar nightmare
EXTRA BONUS TIP: There are no bad foods, only bad amounts and even processed garbage can fit into a healthy food plan if you are mindful of nutrition labels and portion sizes.
