With Spring comes warm weather and a countdown to summer and summer vacations. Most kids and college students are looking forward to summer breaks and hitting the beaches, pools, boats and all of the amazing things the St Pete area has to offer. Judging by the posts on social media and calls flooding into our office, this time of year often has a different effect on men and women over 40 as they start to look down at bodies that have long since quit their New Year’s Resolutions to “be fit” or “lose weight” and are  looking at spring and summer wardrobes that don’t fit and dreading activities which will have them in skin bearing clothing and bathing suits.

Most folks are on a quest to lose weight fast and get a flat belly and I am on a quest to help 🙂 Today I want to start with one of the best fat blasting, “flat belly” recipes I’ve encountered in my 22 years as a personal trainer and body transformation expert.

If you want to lose weight fast and get a body that looks and feels amazing without starvation diets, icky shakes, pills that make you jittery or hours of cardio, Quinoa is key.

We’ve all heard the many health benefits of quinoa.

 

While it is packed with nutrients, fiber and awesome, energizing clean carbs, if you are like me, you’ve hesitated in adding it to your diet due to the taste.

When it comes to weight loss programs and flat belly diets, it’s hard to find one that doesn’t include Quinoa. If you know me, you know I was not a fan of quinoa and never jumped aboard the bandwagon…. until I started doing some research on the actual benefits behind the hype.

Here’s the short list of why Quinoa is awesome:

Quinoa is one of the most protein-rich foods out there and is a complete protein containing all nine essential amino acids

Quinoa contains almost twice as much fiber as most other grains

Quinoa contains Iron,

Quinoa is rich in magnesium which helps to relax blood vessels and thereby to alleviate migraines,

Quinoa is high in Riboflavin (B2) which improves energy metabolism within brain and muscle cells and is known to help create proper energy production in cells.

With the addition of other tasty, nutrient packed foods, it’s a no brainer if you want to drop weight and reshape your body without being hungry !

While it is, indeed, packed with nutrients, fiber and awesome, energizing clean carbs none of that matters if you won’t eat it because you don’t like the taste. I couldn’t stand the stuff but I knew I had to add it to my diet and had to encourage our private training clients and group personal training members to include it in theirs.

SERVING SIZE MATTERS  ! Just because a food is  “healthy” , doesn’t mean it is without calories. While it is one of the best fat blasting, fat belly foods you will find, it is also VERY nutrient dense.  1 serving size is 1/2 Cup (or 1/2 a small fist).
